| I
started playing "percussion" at an early age with
mixing bowls and spoons. Despite this, my parents allowed me to
live long enough to move on to Orff instruments in the 3rd grade
and later to orchestral percussion. I currently play with the
Anchorage Symphony, Opera, Civic Orchestra, and several smaller
theater companies in town. I became interested in pipe bands
after watching Crow Creek at the '07 Highland Games and decided
to start taking lessons in Scottish Side Drumming. |

| I love the skirl of the pipes.
There is no other sound like them. They are
unearthly, transcendental, and a lot of fun. I had
moved around a lot during school and when I moved to
Anchorage in 2004 I knew it would be for long enough to
finally fulfil my dream of learning to play the
bagpipes. I promptly sought out the best local
band and have been with Crow Creek ever since. |

first solo event at the Alaska Highland Games in 2006,
and has been drumming at every available moment since!
She is an instructor for the Crow Creek Pipes and Drums
in Anchorage, and an instructor for the Alaskan Youth
Pipes and Drums group in Eagle River, Alaska. The
majority of Heather's drumming instruction has come from
Tyler Fry at numerous drumming schools. She has also
learned a few things from Kevin MacHeffner, Mike Jett
and Andrew Hoinacki. While Heather is a tenor drummer at
heart, she has pursued some snare drumming with lessons
from Steven McWhirter, John Scullion, Reid Maxwell and
Blair Brown. |

| Hi,
I'm Gerda. I was born and raised in Anchorage, and I learned
to play the bagpipes with CCPD when I was about 12 years old.
When I went away to college in 1996, that was the
beginning of a long hiatus from piping, except for a short stint
practicing with Stonehaven Pipe Band in Aberdeen, Scotland in
2006. In total, I spent about 8 years abroad
studying and working, but I finally returned to playing with
CCPD in fall 2008 when I moved back to Anchorage. I
work at BP as a reservoir engineer for the Prudhoe Bay field. |

| When
I was 11 years old, my parents trotted off to Scotland
and they came back home with a set of bagpipes that they
bought for $27 (circa 1940 MacRae's with ivory) and I
was told that I was going to learn to play and I
haven't looked back since. My career as
a radiation therapist actually gets in the way of my
piping but it keeps the bill collectors off my back! |

Chris Walker
Piper
Quatermaster
aewalker@mtaonline.net
| Chris Walker started on chanter at age sixteen after
a six month battle with her parents who wanted her to play anything
but the bagpipes. They eventually gave in and after many years
later they, and most of the old neighborhood, decided that they
enjoyed it. She met her husband at bagpipe school, and they
now have two twenty-something drummers as offspring. |

| Jim Walker met a bagpiper from Philomath, Oregon who was
willing to take on an adult beginner student. After a year
on the practice chanter, it was strongly suggested that I take two
weeks off work and go to bagpipe school in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
While there, I actually started playing my bagpipes and met
Chris, a bagpiper from Palmer, Alaska who was one of the founders
of Crow Creek Pipes & Drums. After we married, Chris
brought me up to Alaska and introduced me to the band in 1984.
Other than odd absences (law school in Oregon, etc.) I have
been playing with Crow Creek ever since. |

| JP Wood was born and raised in Alaska. He
works for the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, the State agency
that regulates public utilities (water, electricity, gas,
telephone...). He started learning the pipes four years ago so
that he could distract himself from the irritation of having to
work for a living. The pipes, being loud, are nice and
distracting. |
